WHY do cats PURR?

Welcome back Cat Lovers. Hands up if your cat loves purring!

So WHY?!

Hoomans smile and laugh all the way, dogs wag their tail and cats purr. Hmm, have you ever wondered why? A cat’s purr begins in its brain. A repetitive neutral oscillator sends vibrations per second. This causes the vocal cords to separate when the cat inhales and exhales, producing a PURRRRRRRR.

– But not all cats can purr.

We call tigers, cats but they don’t purr because the structures surrounding its roaring aren’t stiff enough to allow them to purr.

Here are the reasons why your cat purrs:

1. Satisfaction and Happiness

It simply means your cat loves you. Loves laying down on your lap and loves your presence. So, the next time you see your cat curled up and purring beside you, just lay down with him. It’s a way of expressing its feeling and you’re a lucky hooman!

2. Self-comforting behaviour

Normally, kittens do this to their mother. It is to signal their presence and asking for food. This continues till their adult lives and that’s why you still hear them purr until this very day!

3. Emotional Response

When your cat is in pain or distress, they purr. Indeed, cats may have purr while giving birth. It’s one of the way or mechanism that helps them rest and repair.

4. Attention

Your cat might have a special type of purr they use when they want attention from you, especially when that wish to be fed. This purr is known as “solicitation purr” and involves a combination of purring and meowing. How adorable is that!
